There was ‘much rejoicing’ in Spencer, Iowa when students, staff, parents and First English Lutheran Church members dedicated their new school to the Lord on Oct. 4, 2015.
Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) is blessed to partner with Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School (IGLLS) and First English to help fund this new facility. Last August, IGLLS opened its doors to welcome 73 K-6 students into a new $3.1 million, state-of-the-art 22,000 square foot facility on the campus of First English Lutheran Church. The school also has a thriving feeder preschool program of more than 70 students. Both First English and Christ the King Lutheran Church, Spencer, Iowa are supporting churches. The experienced staff is led by Principal Dewey Torkelson and has five full-time teachers, a full-time teacher's aide, school secretary and bus driver. Busing is also offered from the cities of Spirit Lake and Milford.
Former Zion-St. John L.S., Paullina and IGLLS principal Don Pipho and current IGLLS principal Dewey Torkelson also attended the dedication service. “Don was instrumental in helping start IGLLS and served as principal for both schools when IGLLS first started,” said Torkelson.
