Cassandra Moore is the second of two 2016 North Wisconsin District LCEF $1,000 scholarship winners. There were a total of 11 upper Midwest districts Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) $1,000 scholarships awarded this spring.
Cassandra is a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Forestville, Wisc., and attends Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW,) Mequon, Wisc. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
In her letter of recommendation for Cassandra, CUW Academic Advisor Holly Baer wrote the following:
“Being an academically strong student in the sciences, [Cassandra] was recommended by her instructors to tutor two different science courses: General Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology. This is big deal! Our sciences can be challenging for students, so it is admirable that she has the ability to not only understand the material herself, but also to apply that understanding in helping other students to do the same.
Cassandra has also taken the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Queens, NY and has attended three LCMS youth gatherings. She is dedicated not only to her own academic success, but also to the betterment of others.
… Cassandra is an individual that, when faced with an obstacle, she problem-solves her way through it - she takes into consideration all options and decides what she needs to do to face the challenge head-on.
It has truly been a pleasure getting to know Cassandra these past two years and I know she will continue to succeed as she keeps moving forward!”
In his letter of recommendation, Pastor Christopher Jackson of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Forestville, Wisc., wrote the following:
“I have come to know Cassandra as a young woman who is keen to serve, intelligent, reliable, and hardworking.
I especially came to see these qualities in Cassandra during a youth mission trip in the summer of 2015. I took about a dozen young people to Queens, New York City, where we did such activities as run a Vacation Bible School, clean, paint, organize, and do landscaping. I could always count on Cassandra not only to take care of the activities assigned to her but also to exercise leadership in the trip.”
LCEF is blessed to have the funds available to support young Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) members as they pursue post-secondary education. It is our prayer that they are equipped to become strong, Christian leaders as adults.
