Congratulations Jazmin Roste of Zion, Alexandria Minn.!

Congratulations Jazmin Roste, the 2014 Minnesota North District Lutheran Church Extension Fund $1,000 scholarship winner! Roste is pursuing a psychology degree at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn.

“[Jazmin] has already shown herself to be a quality student and worker in both society and more particularly in the body of Christ. Throughout her life, Jazmin has been an extremely active and invested part of that body, worshipping, serving, and spiritually being fed at [Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Minn.],” wrote Rev. David Hinz in his letter of recommendation for Roste. “She has also developed the skill of confidently putting herself into new positions and opportunities with positive results. I find this last skill to speak volumes about the kind of woman she has grown into.... [she] engages in service opportunities as moments to demonstrate a living faith. It is The Faith that keeps her connected, driven, and focused,” wrote Hinz.

Ms. Amber Rousu, Roste’s former teacher at Zion Lutheran School in Alexandria, Minn. also submitted a letter of recommendation for Roste. “Jazmin truly has a heart for service and is always looking for opportunities to share her faith in Christ. She has taken all the gifts that God has given her in academics, music, and sports and has shared them fully in serving others, especially children,” wrote Rousu.

“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ This bible verse, found in Acts 20:35, justly describes the mission of the Lutheran Church Extension Fund—an organization solely focused on supporting the Church by implementing its purpose of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” wrote Roste in her scholarship application.

“About forty years ago, my grandparents partnered with LCEF because they believed greatly in the organization’s mission—sharing the news of Jesus to all,” wrote Roste. “The Lutheran Church Extension Fund continuously changes the lives of many people. Not only are the members of receiving congregations affected, but also the investors. The Lord works in mysterious ways. He softens hearts, opens eyes, and purifies the minds of nonbelievers.”

Roste has served as a Vacation Bible School teacher, Sunday School teacher, and has worked with the youth group.  She has organized and directed Science Camp and Kids in the Kitchen Camp for younger children in the summer.  Roste has also assisted in coaching Zion’s volleyball and basketball teams, and has volunteered for the Salvation Army, Sertoma Club, and Knute Nelson nursing home.
