“It’s been a tremendous blessing,” said Rev. Terrill Bramstedt and his wife, Mary. “Without LCEF and our previous congregation, we couldn’t have owned our own home.” Rev. Bramstedt currently serves Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, Minn. where the couple was able to purchase their current home. Prior to Trinity, Bramstedt always served in a congregation with a parsonage. “Our previous congregation where I served for ten years put $1,000 away in a home equity fund for us. So when we took the call to Trinity, we had $10,000 from the congregation to put down as a down payment on our first new home.”

Having the funding available from both the previous congregation and the Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) Rostered Church Worker (RCW) home loan was critical. The funds enabled the Bramstedts to purchase a home right in Elgin where their new congregation was located. It was important to the couple to live in the same community as their members.

“All congregations with a parsonage should look into putting home equity money away for their pastor. It was such a blessing for us especially since I went back to get my nursing degree after our kids were grown. We did not have any disposable income at the time when Terry was called; we are so grateful for the funds that the congregation provided for us,” explained Mary.
