Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) was blessed to help fund a recent sanctuary remodel this spring. Members of St. John's Lutheran Church, Stewartville were delighted to have the majority of the construction completed in time to worship in their new space for Easter Sunday services.
“St. John’s was a pleasure to work with on their loan,” said Minnesota South District LCEF Vice President Kurt Fuhr. “This congregation has a rich heritage of strong LCEF investment support. For years, St. John’s itself and its members have invested to support other LCMS ministries’ improvements. It was very rewarding to now support them with loan funds to address their own capital improvements.” St. John’s is led by Senior Pastor Lyle Fritsch and Associate Pastor Steve Andrews.
Across the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), the national average of LCEF investors is approximately 4.5%. In contrast, 15% of St. John’s current membership are LCEF investors. In 2009, St. John’s was the recipient of the national LCEF outstanding performance award during LCEF’s annual leadership conference. St. John Lutheran Church was recognized for achieving $1 million in investments with LCEF, combined with at least 10 percent investor participation from the congregation. This incredible support came about thanks to several dedicated LCEF volunteers. Former St. John’s LCEF volunteers included Howard Sheppard and the late George Rosin. Today, the rich tradition of LCEF support is led by the efforts of Y.I. Stamp Coordinator Stan Tordsen, his wife, Kathy, and fellow members at St. John's.
