Congratulations Elizabeth Parrish! Elizabeth is the fourth and final 2015 Minnesota South (MNS) District Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) $1,000 Scholarship award winner.
Elizabeth graduated from Mayer Lutheran High School (MLHS) this spring and is a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church – Fish Lake in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Elizabeth is the daughter of Rev. Dr. Brent and Susan Parrish and plans to attend Concordia University – St. Paul and pursue church work in the fall.
Elizabeth is an outstanding student who is also an active volunteer at church and school. She organized and has operated “Parents’ Night Out” for four years. Parents bring their children to church for four to five hours of supervised and structured activities each month. The program offers parents one evening a month of free time to spend together. Elizabeth recruits youth and adults from church to help provide the service. She was also recognized by Kohl’s Department Stores for this impressive act of kindness.
Elizabeth leads a monthly Bible study for girls, sings and plays the drums, violin and guitar for worship services, and volunteers at Sunday school, Immanuel’s mid-week children’s program, and their annual Vacation Bible School.
In his letter of recommendation for Elizabeth, MLHS Executive Director Joel Landskroener wrote, “A servant leader at the highest degree…. Elizabeth is motivated to serve the Lord with her life and she has the skills to do so.... Her courage, patience and goodnatured leadership demonstrated at Mayer Lutheran High School will certainly carry her far in life.”
Elizabeth is an LCEF investor and in her scholarship application, she wrote, “The Lutheran Church Extension Fund changes so many lives … not only are the investors’ lives changed, but that money invested is used to help other people in need. So many churches and Lutheran schools have been built because of the LCEF. The organization is constantly helping to further the kingdom of God.”
LCEF is indeed called to support Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) membership, leadership, churches and schools. LCEF is blessed to have these scholarship funds available to support our youth as they pursue post-secondary education. It is our prayer that these students are equipped to become strong, Christian leaders as adults.
There were a total of twelve 2015 LCEF scholarship winners in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin. These $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS) students in the upper Midwest districts.
