Madie Martens is the second of three 2016 Minnesota South (MNS) District Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) $1,000 scholarship winners. Madie is a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Lakeville, Minn. and a graduating senior at Apple Valley High School (AVHS.) She plans to attend Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon to study computer science and mathematics.
“The ultimate mission of the church and all believers is The Great Commission that Jesus proclaims to us in John 3:16, ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.’ My personal mission is to reflect Jesus by being the hands and feet of Christ. LCEF’s mission correlates to my mission, which I love,” wrote Madie in her application essay. “…I began investing in LCEF at a young age. I was taught about money management and finances, and I also learned about investing. Knowing that I am still investing in an organization that correlates to my mission makes investing all the more meaningful. I am not only making wise choices on my part, but I am helping churches grow and thrive.”
AVHS College in the Schools (CIS) Spanish Teacher David Swanson had this so say about Madie in his letter of recommendation:
“Madie is unashamed of the truth of the gospel and her heart is that others know about what it means to have salvation in Christ. At school, Madie is involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA.) She has been captain for two years…. She has also spoken at an evangelistic outreach called Fields of Faith. The event draws more than 200 students with the goal of presenting the gospel clearly to all who attend.
…Outside of school, Madie is a leader in her church youth group. Madie serves at Vacation Bible School and has gone on mission trips. Madie has also worked with Ongoing Ambassadors For Christ by serving other churches….
In all, Madie is an Acts 1:8 ambassador for Christ. Madie is unashamed of sharing the gospel at Apple Valley High School, in the ministries through her local church and around the United States.”
It is an honor and a blessing for LCEF to have the funds available to support young, active, faith-filled leaders like Madie. Several more students in the upper Midwest districts will be awarded $1,000 LCEF scholarships yet this spring. Follow our newsfeed, Facebook page and Twitter for more announcements.
