Mallory Sievers Awarded 2017 IDW LCEF Scholarship!

The 2017 Iowa District West (IDW) Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) $1,000 Scholarship is awarded to Mallory Sievers. A member of Zion Lutheran Church, Storm Lake, Iowa, Mallory is a freshman studying Elementary Education at the University of South Dakota (USD), Vermillion.

“I was very impressed with Mallory,” wrote USD Speech Instructor Nicole Ackman in her letter of recommendation for Mallory. “She is intelligent, a hard worker and willing to help others succeed.... Through thoughtful conversations in class, in addition to her public speaking examples, Mallory inspired her classmates to be better students and speakers. She was quick to offer encouragement to those who felt less confident in their abilities. Additionally, she was willing to listen to constructive criticism and apply it to her own performances.”

In a second letter of recommendation for Mallory, Karla Christensen wrote, “As a former Board of Education member and Council Secretary at Zion, I have been able to watch Mallory grow and mature into a young woman of high quality and conviction.... She was active in her youth group, helping out with fundraisers and service projects.... In the community, Mallory is respected by adults, younger children, and also her peers, having been an active member of her class (academically, organizationally and athletically,) in community clubs, and is of sound moral and ethical character.”

When asked to write about the ministry of LCEF, Sievers wrote, “I like the service that LCEF provides; it is a great place for members of the congregation to invest money with a meaningful purpose — [LCEF] helps spread the word of God around the world,” said Sievers. “Lutheran Church Extension Fund has changed many people’s lives. My church used LCEF in the past to build a Sunday School Fellowship Hall, and also funded other needs over time....”

The remaining upper Midwest districts’ LCEF scholarships from Iowa District East, Minnesota North and South, North and South Wisconsin and North Dakota Districts will be announced yet this spring. Follow our newsfeed and Facebook page for the most recent awards.

LCEF is truly blessed by generations of investors including Mallory, her siblings, parents and her grandparents. For more information on how you can partner with the ministry of church extension, visit or call 800-843-5233.
