“…As a member of a Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) congregation, I feel blessed that your partnership with the LCMS has furthered the growth of my church through a loan that allowed a second worship center with a connecting school and childcare to stay open.” - Katherine Newman, Faith Lutheran Church, Appleton, Wisconsin.
Katherine Newman is the recipient of a 2018 $1,000 Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) North Wisconsin District scholarship. A member of Faith Lutheran Church, Katherine is also a 2018 graduate of Appleton North High School. In the fall, she will attend Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, to study education and become a Lutheran school teacher with emphases in science and math. Her parents are Daniel and Jenny Newman.
“We will be celebrating with Katherine’s home congregation, Faith Lutheran Church, on June 24, 2018 when they burn their mortgage,” said Dennis Johnson, LCEF District Vice President - North Wisconsin. “The congregation and leadership was wonderful to work with over the years. LCEF has been blessed to help fund their ministry.
In his scholarship letter of recommendation for Katherine, Rev. Daniel Thews wrote, “…Katherine has a wonderful love [for] and relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ever since I first started to get to know her, I've known she would one day become a Lutheran school teacher. She was just wired up that way and I've been blessed to watch that simple child-like faith grow and mature into a faith that is ready to take the next step forward into a called position of teaching and leadership in the church!”
In his letter of recommendation for Katherine, Mark Ropella, Appleton Career Academy/Fox Cities Leadership Academy teacher wrote the following:
“Katherine displayed the ability to balance schoolwork, extra-curricular participation, and contributions to the greater Appleton community. She was a key component of our school's Garden Club, and has been involved with that group for the past three years. Even with her busy schedule, Katherine found time to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
…I enjoyed working with Katherine because she was polite and had an excellent sense of humor. She is a mature, intelligent, young woman with an engaging, selfless nature. Katherine has been a positive force in the Appleton Career Academy/Fox Cities Leadership Academy, and she has made altruistic contributions to our community. I have no doubt that this intelligent, sensitive young woman will be a positive member of the college campus and then go on to make positive contributions to the greater community.”
