Rural Ministry Conference, Onalaska

Minnesota South District LCEF VP Kurt Fuhr and Asst. to the President for Missional Formation Mike Zimmer presented at the Engaging Rural Communities event at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Onalaska, WI on Saturday, July 14. If your LCMS congregation or school is interested in a demographics study of your area, please contact your local LCEF DVP.

Rural and Small Town Mission (RSTM) exists to support and encourage congregations in rural and small town settings in their work to engage their communities with the love of Christ. Saturday's event was a partnership between South Wisconsin, North Wisconsin and Minnesota North Districts. Special thanks to Shepherd of the Hills for hosting this event.

Many rural congregations today are concerned about shrinking membership and fewer children and families in worship. There is no “one size fits all” solution, however congregational leaders were encouraged to become aware of new opportunities for engaging their communities.

Leaders assisted each congregation present to go home with practical approaches on engaging and touching the community with the gospel. Each congregation received LCEF personalized demographics for its community. These studies are an invaluable resource.
