A joy-filled group of more than 200 attended the 26th Minnesota South District older adult gathering of Saints Alive! Growing Ever Serving (S.A.G.E.S.) in North Mankato, Minn. on May 5-6, 2014. The gathering theme was based upon 1 Peter 3:15, “Our Reason for Hope.”
The Gathering consists of various Christian workshops for attendees include singing, good fellowship and continuing education. Led by S.A.G.E.S. President Rev. Jim Vehling.
Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) hosted an evening wine and cheese reception for the group and shared the Young Investors (Y.I.) Club. A Y.I. StewardAccount is a an opportunity for older adults in the Church to connect with the young people in their lives; they can share their values of supporting the Church as well as saving for future needs. Guest speaker at the S.A.G.E.S. Gathering was Dr. Paul Maier. Maier served as Vice President at various levels of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod from 2001 – 2013. Maier is a historian and novelist. He has written several works of scholarly and popular non-fiction about Christianity and novels about Christian historians. He is the former Russell H. Seibert Professor of Ancient History at Western Michigan University, from which he retired in 2011, retaining the title of professor emeritus in the Department of History.
