Joshua Korotka, a teacher at St. Paul Lutheran School in Manawa, WIsc. was one of three LCEF gift card recipients at the October 2017 North Wisconsin District Professional Church Workers conference.

More than 270 professional church workers gathered on October 26, 2017 for an educational conference based upon the scripture John 10:10b. 'I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.' The conference was held at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Weston, Wisconsin.

"The conference focused on the abundant, overflowing life given to us through Jesus," said Lutheran Church Extension Fund North Wisconsin District Vice President Dennis Johnson.

"LCEF was blessed to help sponsor this event in appreciation of our NWD LCMS church workers." There were also three recipients of the LCEF Gift Card Giveaway; a random drawing held at the conference.

Johnson also presented LCEF resources and support opportunities. LCEF is a ministry partner with Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod professional church workers, congregations and schools. LCEF provides loan funding, investment opportunities and overall ministry support. For more information, visit lcef.org or contact Dennis.Johnson@lcef.org.

North Wisconsin District hosted the conference and focused on two educational objectives, (1) to help professional church workers meet generational ministry needs, and (2) to help church professionals have the tools to engage their community. The keynote speaker and worship leader was Travis Guse. Pastor Guse also serves as the Mission Engagement Facilitator-Central Region-Southeast District LCMS.

Abigail Luerssen Awarded Final 2017 NWD LCEF Scholarship!

“Abby is a wonderful Christian young lady and a joy to be around,” wrote Rev. David Karolus in his letter of recommendation for Abigail Luerssen.

Abby is the final 2017 North Wisconsin District (NWD) Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) $1,000 Scholarship winner.

A member of Peace Lutheran Church, Antigo, Wisconsin, Abby will graduate from Antigo High School (AHS) this spring. In the fall, she plans to attend Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) in Mequon, Wisconsin and become a Lutheran School teacher.

“I have witnessed her leadership at our local high school as a student representative and also as part of the marching band,” continued Karolus. “She would be an excellent Lutheran School teacher. You can tell that Abby enjoys life, she looks at things in a positive way and lives out her faith on a daily basis, making an impact for Christ on those around her. She is a person of high Christian character and values. I'm looking forward to seeing what plans God has for Abby as she pursues her dreams and calling as a child of God.”

Pastor Karolus also wrote about Abby’s participation and leadership as a member of their church youth group. Peace hosts a thriving senior high youth group with about 40 students attending each week. One example of Abby’s service includes taking a leadership role in their National Youth Gathering fund raising activity making and selling pizzas two or three times a year. “At times they have made up to 1,000 pizzas in one evening,” wrote Karolus.

In her letter of recommendation for Abby, AHS Spanish Teacher Lorra Metko wrote about Abby’s volunteer service as her teaching assistant.  “…Abby is hard working, asks pertinent questions, and can work with any other student in the room. … Abby started a “word of the week” activity for the students in my classes. Her ethics are admirable and I trust her to write vocabulary quizzes for my lower level students. If I assign a project or have an activity for my Spanish 2 class, Abby may just join right in. The other students look forward to hearing the contributions and opinions of an upperclassman.

Abby has a main role in the high school musical this year, is quite involved in 4H, loves her music, and has a job outside of school…. Due to her work ethic, dependability, and intelligence, the future looks bright for Abby.”

In her scholarship application, Abby wrote, “The mission of Lutheran Church Extension Fund is simple and God pleasing. It is to support the Church in fulfilling its mission of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ by being a Christ-centered servant partner of the LCMS. Through this mission, it ensures that funds and services are available now and in the future. What a blessing to know that an organization is there to assist believers and their church both spiritually and financially.”

Not only is LCEF blessed to partner with congregations just like Peace to provide affordable loan funding, LCEF is also blessed to support active, faith-filled students like Abby with these annual scholarship awards. Emma Walters Awarded 2017 NWD LCEF Scholarship

“Emma loves her Lord and it is a joy to see her sharing that faith,” wrote Rev. Gary Schultz in his letter of recommendation for Emma Walters.

She is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau, Wisconsin and will graduate from Wausau East High School (WEHS) this spring. “Emma has been involved in a variety of activities both in and out of school. She has been a four-year member of FFA, where she has served as both vice president and president, has been involved with 4-H since first grade and has held secretary, treasurer, and historian positions, and has participated in Key Club, volleyball, and Nordic skiing. Emma has also volunteered her time with the 4-H club working at the county fair every summer, raking leaves for local residents, and bell ringing for the Salvation Army.”

In her scholarship essay, Emma wrote, “Undoubtedly, whether I'm working with my 4-H club to plan a meal for the hungry, cleaning up the Wisconsin River with my FFA chapter, or volunteering my time elsewhere, I believe that giving back to my community is of high importance.

That's what I like about the services that LCEF provides; the services and investment opportunities given by LCEF are changing the lives of both individual investors, by giving them financial confidence, and church members and their communities, by [supporting] churches with the financial means necessary to increase and grow their ministries.”

LCEF is blessed to support active, faith-filled students like Emma with these annual scholarship awards. There is another NWD and a Minnesota South District LCEF scholarship yet to be announced this week. Follow our newsfeed and Facebook page for the most recent award announcements.

Congratulations William!

William Laatsch is the first of five 2017 North Wisconsin District (NWD) Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) $1,000 Scholarship winners. He's a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Green Bay and attends Northeastern Wisconsin (NEW) Lutheran High School (NEWLHS), Green Bay. William plans on attending University of Wisconsin – Platteville in the fall.

“Will is also a hard-working student who has a wonderful personality.  His academic success has been impressive.  I have also found him to be very conscientious, respectful and cooperative.   He has displayed wonderful leadership skills through his time as a leader in our Life in Faith Together (LIFT) program.

The thing I am most impressed by is Will’s integrity.  His character shines through in the way that he interacts with teachers, coaches and adults but he also has a unique ability to relate to his peers and to lead by example.

He is selfless, encouraging and diligent when it comes to building others up in their Christian faith and setting the expectations for younger students as it relates to the desired culture of our school.”

In his letter of recommendation for William, Pastor Paul Pett wrote,

“He has a sincere and active Christian faith, being involved in our Praise Team as a drummer just about every week, and has also been involved in many other service and volunteer activities at church. When he has to work on a Sunday morning, he makes sure that he gets to a worship service on a different day, taking the time to hear God’s Word and receive the Sacrament on a weekly basis. …he has become a great example of what every Christian young person should aspire to: faithful, active, and respectable. It has been a joy to watch Will grow and develop into a mature Christian, desiring to walk rightly with his Lord.”

In his scholarship essay, William wrote, “LCEF’s mission is a great example of Christian leadership, especially considering public opinion today. Their vision encompasses how businesses who represent Christ should function. I find that a simple scholarship like this one provides a basic need for Christian youth across the nation….”
